Introduction to Silversmithing – a six week course

Join me and learn the basic foundations of silversmithing. Introduction to silversmithing is a great way of learning the basics for making silver jewellery. From Silver ring making to bezel setting, learn at your own pace at a time and day that suits you.

Fancy learning the basics of silver jewellery making? progressing on to learning several pieces of jewellery and then designing your own piece?

Join me for a weekly group, 3 hour workshop, enabling you to learn the basics of Silver Jewellery making.
Week 1 – foundations of silversmithing

– Copper ring band

– Silver ring band

(you will learn how to adapt, and manipulate the metal. Sawing, piercing, hammering, annealing, patinating and Join solder)
Week 2 – another soldering technique

– silver ring band

– dropcast silver

– sweat solder
Week 3 – It’s bangle time!

– silver bangle

(using all the techniques we used in previous weeks)
Week 4 – Earrings or Pendant?

– simple hammered pair of earrings or pendant

(you choose and design a hammered design/effect, adding ear ring hooks or pendant bale)
Week 5 & 6 – Over to you…

This is your chance to design and make your own piece of jewellery and get some help as you go. Two weeks of tuition to put everything you’ve done from weeks 1-4 to make your own beautiful piece of jewellery.

By opting to complete a 6 week course you receive a reduced hourly teaching rate which includes a wider variety of techniques covered – opening up your creativity and making opportunity Worth over £500.

With hands on help from me, your tutor.

All materials are included for weeks 1-4. This includes all silver, solder, gas and copper.

Weeks 5-6 you will be advised on what materials you need (price of these aren’t included due to everyone doing something different)

This means you can get help and advice on where to buy tools and materials if you decide to pursue jewellery making.

I can also help and advise you on how to set up a jewellery bench and studio at home.

By the end of the course you will have designed and made:

1 copper ring

2 silver rings

1 copper bangle

1 silver bangle

A pair of Earrings or pendant

Techniques learnt

You will have learnt the basic foundations of jewellery making as well as texturing, drop casting and how to polish and finish.

Where you will learn

The Wonky Jewellery Studio is based in The Market town of Richmond North Yorkshire, a short distance from the Marketplace, on the Gallowfields trading estate, just along from Richmond Garden Centre.

With 6 custom made jewellery benches and use of all tools.

You do not need any previous experience.

When? – Your Weekly classes will start on Tuesday 21st April between 6-9pm.

I also have my studio sidekick, Hugo – a border collie dog who is extremely friendly and likes to be involved with whatever I am doing. If this is a problem, please let me know.
