Introduction to Silversmithing – a six week course
Join me and learn the basic foundations of silversmithing. Introduction to silversmithing is a great way of learning the basics for making silver jewellery. From Silver ring making to bezel setting, learn at your own pace at a time and day that suits you.
All materials included
A weekly 1-2-1, 3 hour workshop enabling you to learn the basics of Silver Jewellery making.
Starting in copper you will learn how to adapt, and manipulate the metal by Sawing, piercing, hammering, annealing, patinating and forming.
By opting to complete a 6 week course you receive a reduced hourly teaching rate and dedicated 1-1 making, including a wider variety of techniques covered – opening up your creativity and making opportunity.
All materials are included – no hidden costs
By the end of the course you will have designed and made:
1 ring
1 bangle
Earrings
A pendant
Formed and set a bezel and stone
Learnt how to polish and finish.
You will also be advised how to set up your own jewellery space at home.
The Wonky Jewellery Studio is based in The Market town of Richmond North Yorkshire, a short distance from the Marketplace, on the Gallowfields trading estate, just along from Richmond Garden Centre.
Workshops are usually held on a daily basis between 11 and 5.30pm. Evenings Upon request. I’m more than happy to cater for other times and days, so just pop me a message.
You do not need any previous experience
Custom made jewellery benches and use of tools are available for your session.
What you will learn (there will be lots more packed in if time allows)
Week 1 – Learn the foundations of silversmithing, piercing, texturing, join solder and stamping. You will come away from this session with a Copper and Silver ring band.
Week 2 – Taking what you learnt in week one and throw in another soldering technique, some drop casting and more texturing to come away with a Bangle.
Week 3 – More experimenting with texturing, patination and reticulation as well as drilling holes and filing to create some drop or dangly earrings (hoops also available)
Week 4 – This week we practice our soldering and continue expanding our creativity palette whilst introducing oxidisation and you will finish week 4 with a beautiful pendant.
Week 5 – Bezel setting…..one of the most popular sessions, Set a cabochon stone to form your first ever stone setting. Please free free to bring along your own stone or glass if you wish to set this into a bezel.
Week 6 – Tying up all that you’ve learnt in the 6 weeks to finish your bezel and learn Finishing and polishing. We also cover how to create a studio space at home
Techniques include:
Annealing, quenching, pickling
soldering x 2 techniques
patination, texturing, reticulation
filing and finishing.
granulation, drop casting
Bezel setting.
Hand tools are used alongside a simple power tool. Safety goggles provided.
Toilet and refreshments available with cake making a regular appearance!
Please bring glasses if you use them.
I also have my studio sidekick, Hugo – a border collie dog who is extremely friendly and likes to be involved with whatever I am doing. If this is a problem, please let me know.
